SALUTE TO HEROES

Our Salute to Heroes Program started out as a platform for arts mainly as a fundraiser and to build awareness about the sacrifices of the soldiers among the civilian community. In 2009, we had a scintillating cultural event showcasing memorable performances by 12 renowned dancers and a fusion music ensemble with 15 percussionists. This program has since then taken off as one of our profoundest ways to intertwine art with the goals of our cause.

This program has been a success in raising awareness of the plight of veer naris and their needs. Not many people are aware of the social implications and the financial burden in losing a husband in battle, not to mention the emotional stress that the wives and children go through. Though art, in music and dance, we are able to draw attention to these realities and garner much needed support for these women and their families.

Paying our respects through art

Our first Salute to Heroes program was The Silent Front, a play that was jointly envisioned by Col. Vasanth and Subhashini. Tragically, Col Vasanth was martyred before he could finish writing the play. We have continued to keep the Salute to Heroes Program alive each year by bringing in greater talent to express the solidarity we share with veer naris and their families. These awareness programs foster inclusiveness for these families within the larger society.

On Saturday 21st, October 2017, “Salute to Heroes” will celebrate the 10th anniversary of Vasantharatna Foundation for Arts in its vision to reach out to the families left behind by the martyred soldiers. The event is a cultural program in the form of a classical Bharatanatyam performance by Subhashini Vasanth under the able guidance of the legendary dancer, actor Dr.Vyjayantimala Bali.

We are continually looking for new talent and sponsors for our Salute to Heroes Program. Get in touch with us if you would like to contribute to our cause.
